A turn-based strategy game is a strategy video game in which players play one after another. Turn-based strategy games are the first ones of the strategy genre. It originally comes from the time where, for logical technological reasons, real time wasn't even possible. Turn-based strategy video games as we know them are the descendant of older games like chest or go.

For a long time developers converted board and historic turn-based strategy games to computer games and after they had done it they began creating completely original turn based strategy video games. The most famous games of the genre are the Civilization series, the Heroes of Might and Magic series and the Panzer General series.
