Soviet

The Soviet Union (USSR, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was a constitutionally socialist state that existed in Eurasia from 1922 to 1991 (that includes Russia and parts of Central Europe).

It was established after the fall of the Russian Empire, due to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Russian Civil War (from 1918 to 1921) during which the people took the power from the nobles and overthrown the tsar Nicolas II.

The former government was replaced by the Russian provisional government (did not last for a long) took led by Lenin (most famous leader), and later by Stalin from 1922 to 1953 as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union s Central Committee.

The Soviet Union was a union of several Soviet Republics. Its boundaries of the USSR varied with time; many territories were added during World War II. The Soviet Union played a great role in this war and eventually established its sphere of influence over most of European eastern countries.

The Soviet Union became the primary model for future Communist states during the Cold War; the government and the political organization of the country were defined by the only political party, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

From 1945 until dissolution in 1991, a period known as the Cold War, the Soviet Union and the United States of America were the two world superpowers that dominated the global agenda of economic policy, foreign affairs, military operations, cultural exchange, scientific advancements including the pioneering of space exploration, and sports (including the Olympic Games and various world championships).
