A shooter game is a video game subgenre of
action games. To determine a shooter game there are many criteria, as the perspective, the realism, the number of characters, the multiplayer mode and the focus. Each of those criteria helped categorized the games in subgenres as
shoot them up,
first person shooters (in which the player views the event from behind the eyes of the character),
third person shooters (in which the camera follow the player) or
tactical shooters that simulates realistic military actions.
The most famous shooter games are
Goldeneye, the
Halo series, the
Doom series, the
Ghost Recon series and many others. Those games are loved by players for their solo mode, but they wouldn't be so famous without an interesting multiplayer mode. Indeed, in those games the multiplayer mode was very innovative and it contributed to the development of the shooter genre.
