Mario is one of the most famous characters in the video game history. He was created by a much respected game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, and he first appeared in the game Donkey Kong in 1981 as a character named "Jumpman".

"Jumpman" became Mario when the arcade game Mario Bros. was released, and in that game he was paired with his brother Luigi. This game had an enormous success, and when the Nintendo Entertainment System was released, the developers also released Super Mario Bros.

Since then Mario became Nintendo's flagship franchise. He was known in the entire world as the funny plumber everyone liked, and he interested many gamers who wanted to play the new hero of platform games.

Mario is a short and stubby man who wears a hat with an "M". He has a moustache, brown hairs and white gloves. He loves wearing a blue overall on top of his red shirt, but in the many different games he is in, he often changes his outfit to suit the game. Mario is known as a kind-hearted and brave hero, who loves pastas and pizzas. We can say that he represent the stereotypical Italian who loves food, and women.
