Luigi is the younger brother of Nintendo's official mascot Mario. He was created by the game designer Shigeru Miyamoto for the arcade game Mario Bros. where he was, as Mario, one of the main characters.

Originally Luigi was designed identically to Mario; the only difference was his green overall instead of the red one. But throughout the Mario series he became more and more important what lead to the adoption of a personality and a style of his own.

Luigi is a kind-hearted and heroic character, but in some games he is also described as a reluctant, cowardly and timid being. He is always afraid of acting but when he's brothers enters a fight he is always there to help him. We can say that Luigi is in some way like Mario but in others he is quite different, but when Mario needs him he comes immediately.

The bond uniting them is very deep, and it is practically impossible to separate them. In the different games of the series it is sometimes said that Luigi and Mario are twins, it could explain why they look so alike...

Luigi is a very famous video game character, he sometimes lives under the shadow of his big brother but for many gamers he is the true hero of the Mario series !
