Doom is a
first person shooter game edited by Id software and released on December 10th 1993. He is known as the pioneer of multiplayer and 3D games.
Doom was downloaded by more than 10 million people in one year, making the gameplay more popular than ever. To underline its influence on shooting games, the games released in the middle of the 90s were called 'Doom clones or Doom like'. Its graphics and real violence also lead to a certain controversy.
Doom was followed by its sequel Doom 2 and extensions in 1994 and Doom 3 in 2004.
The game has a simple scenario, mixing
sci-fi and horror, the player is a Space Marine without a name deported on Mars after attacking an officer and disagreeing with his orders.
He is thus forced to work for the Union Aerospace Corporation, a military-industrial conglomerate that is performing secret experiments with teleportation.
In order to complete the game, the player must fight through three episodes containing nine levels each.
