The Age Of Empire series is real-time strategy video game developed by Ensemble Studios and Microsoft.

The first opus of this series was released in 1997 and take place during the ancient history. It had an extension Age Of Empires: The Rise Of Rome that adds the roman campaign. This game is the first of the series and since its release there were numerous sequels.
The first one, Age Of Empire II: The Age Of Kings, was published in 1999 and it also had an extension, Age Of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion.
In 2003, Age Of Mythology appeared and it added magical powers to the units you create. There were two extensions for this opus, The Golden Gift and The Titans in which you could control a new type of units: the Titans.
In the end of 2005 Age Of Empire III was released. In this opus the game took place during the colonization era (from 1492 to 1850) and there was an important graphic upgrade. There also were two extensions to this opus, The WarChiefs and The Asian Dynasties in which new civilizations appeared could be controlled

The Age of Empire series is a mix between the Civilization series from which it took the concept of evolution through the ages and of the game Total Annihilation from which it took the game play.
