Activision is the first videogame console developer and distributor after
Nintendo.Funded in 1979, their first products are the Atari 2600 cartridges.
In 2005, Activision is one of the biggest game developers in the world, only behind electronic Arts.Before Activision's creation, videogames were developed exclusively by the console makers for which the games were made.
In 1982, Activision released Pitfall which is considered as the first platform game besides being the most sold on Atari 2600.
In 1985, the company joins Infocom, a pioneer in the adventure games and three years later, it started making other software and application.
Because of that, it changed its name to Mediagenic in order to have a name which would better suit its activities.
But this decision to enlarge its activities besides videogames was not a great success, and as a consequence, it was merged with The Disc Company and after this bankruptcy, the company took back its first name: Activision.
In 2007, the company was partly bought by Vivendi Games and become Activision Blizzard, Blizzard being the main component of Vivendi Games.
