Silent Hill Origins is a survival horror game released on PSP in November 6, 2007, developed by Climax Studio and published by Konami. This episode is a prequel to the Silent Hill series and relates events taking place before the first episode. Silent Hill Origins has been reedited on Playstation 2 in 2008.

One night-blindness, Travis Grady, simple truck driver had to swerve to avoid a figure that suddenly appeared in front of his truck while he was travelling on winding roads near Silent Hill. When he got out of his vehicle to see if the person was hurt, the figure had disappeared. As he returned to his truck, a girl appeared in the rearview mirror. Looking hastily behind him Travis didn't see anybody. Thinking that was only a figment of his imagination, influenced by the strange dream that continues to haunt him every night, Travis decided to leave for good. Then the girl reappeared distinctly in front of the truck and fled through the thick fog. Travis hotfooted after her and got in front of a house being prey to flames. A scream came from inside the house. Travis gathered his courage, entered the flame residence and emerged with a girl severely burned in his arms. This girl happens to be a certain Alessa Gillespie?

Silent Hill Origins uses the same gameplay mechanisms and the unique atmosphere of the Silent Hill series. Thus we must walk around the wicked city, visiting well known places like Alchemilla hospital. We always have to fight shapeless monsters and solve puzzles. This Silent Hill has no reason to be jealous of its non portable console counterparts.

By providing important elements to the Silent Hill mythology and answers to some questions left in abeyance by the first Silent Hill, Silent Hill Origins is an indispensable episode for any fan of this survival horror series.
