DDR, is a video game played with the feet. It was created for arcades by Konami Japan, in 1998. Later, many variations appeared, for example versions which we can play at home. The European versions of the game and certain Japanese versions are known under the name Dancing Stage. Dance Dance Revolution consists in ?dancing? with its feet a choreography preregistered and posted on a screen.
The player has a dance carpet or a platform with four buttons (high, low, left, right-hand side), and on which he can walk in (certain versions have four additional arrows, high-left, high-right-hand side, low-left, low-right-hand side).
During the game, a rhythmic music is played, and arrows of various directions appear on the screen. The player must put his feet on the corresponding buttons of the platform when the arrows reach a reference mark at the top of the screen. Some steps have two simultaneous arrows (jumps), others implies to keep foot pressed on the button during a certain time (freeze). In addition to the traditional way to play , the players has invented new ways to play the game. At first we have the ?score?, which consists in following the basic principle to obtain more points, ?style?, which adds an artistic aspect to the game. And the ?freestyle?: an alternative of style, which consists in improvising its own choreography.
Dance Dance Revolution was adapted on PC and Mac via software freeware, in particular on 'Stepmania' and 'Dance with Intensity'.
Although the dance carpets are mainly intended for PlayStation, we can use it on computer via USB adapters. All the adapters are however not compatible with all dance carpets .
Konami also made an official version for PC, containing songs from the first and the second mix.
