Appollo Justice: Ace attorney is an adventure /visual novel game released on February 18, 2008, developed and published by Capcom. This is the fourth opus of the Ace Attorney series and the first episode to have been developed specifically for the DS.
This time the player does not take on the role of the famous lawyer Phoenix Wright but embody a new character named Apollo Justice. In his first case Apollo has to defend Phoenix. The latter is now a pianist and an unbeaten poker player who works in a Russian restaurant. He is accused of the murder of a customer killed with a bottle of grape juice.
The principle of the game remains the same. The player has to defend his client in front of a tribunal and bring out the truth about the murder affairs. As in the other opuses of the saga, the various chapters are divided into 2 separate game phases: one on which you have to collect as much evidence and information as possible, and the other that takes place in court where you have to put forward your arguments and detect the contradictions in the testimonies of people who go at the bar.
However, some novelties emerge, using the touch screen of the DS. As in the 5th case of the first episode of Ace Attorney it is possible to inspect all incriminating evidence modeled in 3D. We also have to use the screen and the microphone of the console to identify fingerprints. But the big novelty of gameplay that replaces the Psyche-lock of the second episode is the magic ring of Apollo allowing him to detect the slightest nervous tics of the witnesses, which helps to know on what issues they lied.
The 4th episode of Ace Attorney is placed directly into the vein of the previous episodes. But the principle works and continues to be impelling. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney does not take a risk but satisfy for sure the fans of the series.
Fans of the previous Ace Attorney games will appreciate the new touch-screen mechanics and improved presentation, but these changes don't do much to spice up the series' often slow and tedious pacing.
