Silent Hill 4: The Room

Silent Hill 4: The Room is a survival horror released on Playstation 2 and Xbox in 2004. This game was developed and published by Konami. This is the 4th opus of one of the best survival horror series.

This time we take control of Henry Townshend a tenant of the South Ashfield Heights building, who occupies the apartment n° 302 since 2 years. There he lived peaceful days but recently Henry can no longer leave his apartment. Confined inside, the door condemned by chains and windows refusing to open up, he lost all contact with the outside world. And as if that were not enough, every night he makes the same nightmare. The 5th day of his captivity, a strange gaping hole appeared in his bathroom. This hole constitutes the only possible exit then he decided to gather his courage and penetrates inside? The hole will then take him in a distorted reality filled with monsters. His adventure will lead him in the footsteps of a serial Killer closely linked to the town of Silent Hill.

The game begins in the apartment of Henry with a subjective view. However, we return to a 3rd person view once in the vzrious environments outside the apartment. The gameplay is close to the other silent hill: we have to cross levels solving riddles and surviving the nightmare creatures that wander in the game.

However, this Silent Hill is resolutely different compared to the others, with its storyline unconnected with the previous opuses, and the emergence of new enemies. These new opponents are ghosts of victims of awful murders that will continue to pursue the player throughout the game. These creatures can not be eliminated and will always get off the ground after being put ashore. Their mere presence weakens the health of the hero. The player will then have to flee again and again. In other words, the player must constantly be on guard, watching the slightest appearance of these macabre bodies flying 10 inches above the ground.

This Silent Hill is certainly one of the most horrific episodes of the saga; constant fear and uneasiness do not release the player throughout the game. Even once back at the apartment, only haven of peace, the danger may occur with nightmarish phenomena that can be removed by using candles.

However many players blame the fact that at the half of the game we have tore-visit environments already crossed. Apart from this little drawback, Silent Hill 4: The Room is an excellent survival horror with a tortured scenario, an incredible soundtrack, and a terrifying adventure out of the ordinary.

The minds behind today's most popular survival-horror franchises have always seemed to take a "If it scared 'em once, it'll work again!" approach to sequels. Resident Evil titles come standard with lame key puzzles, lumbering zombies, obnoxious crows, and a ubiquitous escape-the-facility-before-it-blows finale. Similarly, Silent Hill games offer fog-shrouded visuals, conflicted heroes interloping between realities, creepy enemies in need of a crowbar beatdown, and a ubiquitous trip to a blood-soaked hospital. Of course, these repetitive formulas can only work for so long.and just as Resident Evil 4 readies a bevy of changes, Silent Hill 4: The Room receives a serious remodeling.
