Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is a Beat'em all developed and published by Capcom, released in 2005 on Playstation 2. This is the 3rd episode of the famous series of action game made in Capcom. After a disappointing second episode, Devil May Cry 3 had the heavy responsibility of rehabilitating the series.
The story takes place several years before the events of the first Devil May Cry. We incarnate a younger, more impetuous and rock'n roll Dante. This time he will have to stand up against his twin brother Vergil who wishes to open the doors to the demonic world. To find his brother and his acolyte named Akram, in order to end their evil designs, Dante will have to climb all floors of the strange Temen-Ni-Gru tower which appeared from nowhere in the midst of the city. During his adventure Dante will encounter Lady, a mysterious demon huntress seeking for revenge.
We find in this episode the frantic and exhilarating pace of battle of the first episode. The player is immersed in the heart of the action and has at his disposal a vast range of skills with the emergence of a style system. This system allows you to vary the gameplay by providing 4 different styles of fighting: swordmaster, gunslinger, trickster and royal guard. 2 other styles can be unlocked during the adventure. The style swormaster focuses on physical combat, while the gunslinger style makes the firearms more effective. The trickster style allows Dante to make dodge moves and perform acrobatics. Finally the royal guard style, more difficult to control, is based on protection and counterattacks.
With its nervous action, its arrogant and charismatic Dante, and its impressive bosses, Devil May Cry 3 does honor the series by taking over some aspects which have made the success of the first episode. The game was reissued in 2006 providing a few bonuses, like the fact to be able to incarnate Vergil.
Anyone who perseveres long enough to learn the ropes will probably agree that Devil May Cry 3 is one of the best PlayStation 2 action adventure games since the original.
