While humanity is in war against the Covenant, Reach, main bastion of this alien coalition tries to annihilate any sign of human life.
Earth is now the last step for these aliens. John-117, nicknamed Master Chief, a Spartan is the last of his group, the others having been sent on Reach for a mission.
The game starts when the Pillar of autumn, only spaceship which survived to the Reach massacre arrives to a strange system after following the Covenant's spaceships.
Human discover a structure in a ring form and while the spaceship is attacked, John has to escape. He lands in a structure named Halo and has to find a way to come back to Earth.
The gameplay is quite simple and intuitive. The player only sees the weapon as if he was holding it in front of his eyes.
He has to kill his enemies and fulfil various objectives. There are a lot of weapons, each one having a different level of power. The player can also drive different vehicles and is helped by other soldiers throughout the game.
