Belief and Betrayal is a point-and-click adventure game developed by Artematica and published by Micro Application, released in 2007 for Windows. This is a single-player game.
This game received mixed reviews from the gaming press; some critics praised its interesting and captivating storyline that is quite similar to the Da Vinci Code one. But it was also criticized for its poor voice acting. Despite this Belief and Betrayal is a nice and fun game to play that is full of suspense.
In Belief and Betrayal you play as an American journalist called Jonathan Danter working for the Manhattan Mirror. Your uncle Franck, who has been considered dead for years, has just been murdered. You have to travel to the funeral in London.
You rapidly discover that your uncle was in reality a member of the Vatican Secret Service, whose mission is to guard all of the Vatican s secrets. You are dragged from New York to London by Scotland Yardso as to impart this information to you and also to inform you that you are endangered as you uncle s murderer seems planning to kill you too.
Then you get involved in a church conspiracy which reaches back to the day where Judas betrayed Jesus Christ. Your main goal is to find a mysterious ancient artifact called the Imago Sanctissimus that can apparently answer all questions about everything. You will discover that you are embroiled in a huge plot that involves the police the Vatican and the Catholic Church, does it sound familiar to you'
To achieve your mission you will be helped by your uncle s assistant Katrin, a computer expert Damian and a mysterious guy who belong to the Legacy (a shadowy Vatican secret society). You can choose to play as Jonathan, Katrin or Damian, you can switch between them at any time while playing.
You will visit several and nice locations throughout Europe (cathedrals in France, etc.) and will discover new mysteries and surprises. You will have to solve various puzzles; most of them are inventory based but there are also few logic puzzles.
The three parallel playable characters Jonathan, Katrin and Damian examine, pick up or use objects, solve riddles and talk with other persons. A new feature in Belief and Betrayal is a thought inventory in which the characters record their ideas about different problems.
You can use the notes with objects or with your communicator. With the communicator you contact your partners and send them information which may help them in their current situation. When the all the characters have completed their individual missions, the current level ends and the next one starts.
