Final Fantasy VIII is a role playing game developed and published by Square. The game was released on PlayStation and on PC.
After the incredible success of its seventh episode, the Final Fantasy franchise returns once again with a brand new adventure. More realistic, Final Fantasy VIII will take you in an entirely different world with characters as real and deep as any human being.
You will play as the main protagonist, Squall Leonhart, as he follows his training in the Balamb Garden military academy to become an elite mercenary, the SeeD. Meanwhile, the world is going to worst as neighboring countries declare war on each other and invasions begin. In his journey, Squall will meet many characters and especially Rinoa Heartily, a young woman who will completely charm him. Together, and with some other friends, they will leave to try to stop the sorceress Edea, responsible for the attacks on the world.
Final Fantasy XIII follows its predecessors in terms of gameplay but has its own particularities that completely differentiate the games. The battles are still turn-based but have a new system, Junction. Contrary to previous installments, characters don't have Magic points anymore and spells are more considered as items than an entity on their own. You will need to defeat enemies to obtain Draw Points which you'll then use for your magic. Also, summoning has taken a much bigger part in this game. Now, the "called" monsters (known as Guardian Forces in the game) will fight by your side instead of just delivering one devastating attack. In the other novelties, weapons can now be upgraded and each character has his own specialized weapon that he'll keep all along in the game. Limits Breaks are of course back but don't follow the same system as in Final Fantasy VII. Here, they will appear randomly when your health is below 32% percent or you're in an altered state.
Final Fantasy VIII continues perfectly what the seventh episode had done introducing the series to the 3D. As always, the story is fascinating, the gameplay well-thought, and the game is absolutely beautiful. Simply one of the best RPGs ever created that any owner of the PlayStation must try.
