Barrow Hill is a horror point-and-clickadventure game developed and published by Shadow Tor Studios, released in 2006 for Mac and Windows. This is a single-player game.
Barrow Hill was well-received by critics for the quality of its soundtracks and the logical structure of the game; it was also praised for its interesting and challenging puzzles that suit well with the game and that offers not too much difficulty to be solved.
This game is truly scary but never turns into gory which is quite a positive point, it is not a game only for teenagers, it is full of suspense and you will feel quite nervous while playing as you are not expecting what is coming.
Thanks to Barrow Hill you will discover that Cornwall (Britain) can be a terrifying place, the environments are faithfully rendered through hundreds of pictures of the countryside.
The game begins with a black and white cutscene of an automobile moving through traffic. Unfortunately the car turns off onto a rural road.
You play as an unknown and unnamed character, the car s driver. You rapidly discover that something mysterious is happening in this area as you cannot leave it as you are locked in by a kind of force field.
Consequently you are forced to walk through the darkness and you finally arrive in a lonely but well lit gas-motel-diner complex.
However you are not safe, and this is here where you really understand that you are in troubles. The motel is totally empty and it seems that the customers and staff dashed off.
By looking in the motel you rapidly notice that there are plenty of archeological materials lying around there, it appears that Barrow Hill was in fact an archeological site.
The scientists working there were studying old and mysterious stone formations, and apparently during their searches they released something evil and something that is extremely hungry.
Throughout the game you will have to face many dangers of all kind. By completing the puzzles you will learn more about eh plot and you will understand that the evil creature endangers the entire world. So your mission is in reality to save the world.
Barrow Hill as many adventures game offers two possible endings depending on how successful you are.
As it is said above you will have to solve puzzles to advance in the game. They are not really complicated and you will have to use carefully the items you will collect in the game.
The game is quite open so you could have access to the whole areas; do not forget also to read the notes left by the archeologists, these elements could be extremely useful to solve the puzzles.
