WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 is a wrestling game developed by Yuke's Media Creation and edited by THQ, available on Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, PS2, PS3, PSP and Xbox 360.
The series of WWE Smackdown vs. Raw has been the reference for wrestling video games for several years, and the 2009 version comes out with some novelties.

As far the gameplay is concerned, the moves are done as usual. Pressing the buttons and moving the two joysticks in the desired directions is enough to hit the opponent, subject him to various joint-locks, and upend him in all directions. And in order to block the hits, pulling the triggers at the right moment is needed.

A very wide range of joint-locks and take-downs is available and we can highlight the fact that, unlike the previous versions, techniques peculiar to each wrestler have been added.
Concerning the characters, dozens of wrestlers are available, men as well as women.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 also offers a large choice concerning the game modes. The Exhibition game mode offers six categories of different fights (from a mere One-to-One, to Fatal-Four Way...). There is also the traditional carrier game mode, which is still based on the same concept as the previous games, and a very new game mode with its own scenario : Road to Wrestlemania.
In this game mode, the player chooses his character among the six available wrestlers, and follows his story day after day in his own adventure for a period of three months. This game mode combines fights with effective cut-scenes so as to create some kind of little story.
Thanks to the Creation game mode, it is possible to create your own wrestler from his physical aspect, to his entry scene or his list of techniques. You may create your own finisher-moves as well.

There is also a multiplayer game mode that allows you to virtually slap your friends or people all over the world across the face.
