Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is a FPS (First Person shooter) released on Nintendo 64 in August 2000, developed by Acclaim Austin Studios and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It is the 3rd part of the Turok series started in 1997 on Nintendo 64 and PC with Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. It is therefore a direct sequel to the second opus, and the hero must now cope with Oblivion, an evil entity which feeds on living beings dying by devouring them from of the inside.

After the death of Primagen and the destruction of his spacecraft in the second opus Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, the destructive reaction chain that results was of such magnitude that the Almighty Oblivion itself was nearly eradicated. But he managed to survive and, having felt for the first time pain and fear, decided to return to its former power by going to the Lost Land and in our world and eliminating the last Turok?s heirs that have a fragment of the energy which have undermined the power of Oblivion. Oblivion will then send his henchmen called "Sons of Darkness" to find and kill the members of the Turok line, in order to finally be reborn.

The game begins with Joshua Fireseed (hero of the previous track), his sister Danielle and his brother Joseph. One evening Joshua is attacked in his sleep by creatures sent by Oblivion. He ordered his brother and his sister to flee while he retains the monsters. So he used a grenade in order to eliminate all creatures in one blow. Joseph and Danielle were then rescued by Adon, an extraterrestrial female who have already helped Joshua in Turok 2. After having teleported them to a safer place, Adon explained the situation, and what threat was Oblivion. One of two young heroes will then have to take the title of Turok and go on an adventure to destroy Oblivion once and for all.

The player then has the choice to embody one of the 2 characters, either Joseph or Danielle. Danielle has a strong fire power and can use a grappling hook, while Joseph is more of a stealth-type character with night-vision goggles.

The game includes a total of 20 different weapons in order to vary the pleasures of gaming. There are well over a large part of weapons already present in the previous Turok game, such as the bow, or the Cerebral Bore. The levels are varied and offer a range of creatures quite different from the previous episodes. There are no more the dinosaurs that inhabited the Lost Land of the first 2 Turok, here are the Flesh Eater of Oblivion, monsters that look like to formless pile of flesh.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion takes place in the same vein of its 2 predecessor by offering an adventure always so intense and the most beautiful graphics that can give Nintendo 64.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion reviews

Shadow of Oblivion is successful because it concentrates upon what made the Turok franchise a best-seller instead of attempting to one-up the competition, making it in many ways the best Turok yet.
