Championship Manager is a series of football management videogames where the player is in the skin of a manager. He plays the role of the trainer (composition of the team, replacements, tactical choices), but he is also partly responsible of the financial aspect of the club, deciding transfers, negotiating the contracts with the players'
The series is characterized by the stress laid on realism, aiming at simulating in the most complete way all the elements of the life of a football club.
This choice is carried out to the detriment of the graphic aspect, which seems very austere at first. Then during a long time the matches will be represented by a simple succession of textual comments.
Still, the database is particularly complete and up to date compared to the last developments of the world of football. These qualities allowed the creation the 8 successive versions of the game developed by Sports Interactive between 1992 and 2003 to obtain a success growing in the whole world, making this series the reference of football management games.
