Tomb Raider Underworld is a platform action and adventure game actually under development by Crystal Dynamics, due to release in the fourth quarter of 2008 (in North America then in Europe) for Windows, Nintendo DS, Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2 and 3. This will be a single-player game.
Tomb Raider Underworld will be the eighth game in the Tomb Raider series; it will resume the adventure from the game Tomb Raider Legend left off and address elements of the plot left unexplained in Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary.
The main protagonist of the game will be obviously the famous Lara Croft, an intelligent, athletic English woman of noble birth who travels the world in pursuit of priceless artifacts.
Lara is an archeologist but also an adventurer, and during her travels she frequently ventures into ancient and often very hazardous tombs and puzzles. She also has often to fight rivals, gangsters and so on.
It will feature new elements; for example the environments will be interactive worlds that react, such as footprints left in the mood or mud transferred to Lara s knees, etc. And as the rain that continually poured from the sky washed Lara clean quickly (and when the rain stops, Lara and her clothes would dry as well).
Lara will be able to interact dynamically with her environment, such as pushing foliage with one or two hands, depending on if she is carrying a weapon.
Lara can also split up her guns and fire at two different targets simultaneously. In addition to this both the enemy AI and animals reacted to and attacked based on the threat they perceived from their line of sight.
The character of Lara was improved too, her costume was redesigned and she no longer wears her trademark blue sleeveless top and khaki shorts but instead, a dark brown halter top and black shorts. In addition to this her hair is no longer braided but worn in a ponytail. Her moves have been improved too thanks to being fully motion captured.
This adventure will take place in Thailand, Mexico and the far North, ad each area will feature a different underworld, such as the Mayan hell known as Xibalba. You will have to gather items and clues from each of these underworlds; and your main goal will be to track down Thor s hammer. Indeed according to the legend this hammer holds the power to destroy even the gods.
She can now knock down enemies with a new set of punches, kicks, knees and acrobatic tumbles; she can also pick up melee objects (such as poles) and use against opponents. For instance you can use a pole to smack a jaguar across the nose.
