Alone in the Dark is a monument of the survival horror genre and every episode is as terrifying. Edward Camby, the protagonist of the very first game, returns for one night only to discover some unnatural events.
Set in 2008, the whole game takes place in one night. Edward Camby assists to bizarre events that occur in New York's Central Park. Everything revolves around rumors and suspicions of activities in the Park. With the help of an art dealer and an elderly, you'll find clues and trails that will lead to the explanation of all these events. Edward will have to survive and attack at the same time the creatures that rode around the park. The story is told by means of different episodes. The originality lies in the fact that if you're stuck in one of them you can skip directly to the next one. In consequence, you'll have an introductory movie starting off by "Previously on Alone in the dark"; a phrase used in most TV shows. Through a total of 8 episodes, you will bit by bit discover the secrets of Central Park.
Alone in the Dark can be played in both third person and first person view. The game revolves mainly on solving a number of puzzles that will give you a clue or item allowing you to advance in the story. You will need to use many elements of the environment to solve them or simply to defend yourself. Some items can be combined to form a stronger or more efficient weapon. In case of damage, you'll have some medical spray to aid you but just in case of small wounds. For the bigger ones you'll need bandage and you better heal your wounds quickly as Edward will start losing vision and the stressing heart pounding will only get louder.
Alone in the Dark returns to the origins of the series and brings new elements to enhance the experience. The game successfully gives you the scare you are looking for and will have you searching all night long for the secrets of Central Park.
