Dark Sector is a third-person shooter, horror and action video game developed by Digital Extremes and published D3 Publisher of America, released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March 2008. This is a single-player and multiplayer game.
This game received mixed reviews from the gaming press; it was praised for its challenging gameplay and intelligent bosses to defeat and varied types of battles; it was also criticized for its simplistic storyline. But it is obvious that this game is extremely pleasant and enjoyable.
Dark Sector takes place in the crumbling infrastructure of a fictional Soviet -bloc country called Lasria in the near future. You will play as Hayden Tenno an elite black-ops agent who is sent into Lasria.
The single-player game starts off with prologue mission that takes place some 20 years before the events of the other nine levels. This prologue mission is the best way to familiarize you with the game s controls.
His mission consists of destroying a virus that has been released on the innocent population by the evil Mezner who created it; he also has to assassinate him as well. The virus turns the people into mutants.
Eventually Hayden finds Mezner but he is unfortunately infected by the virus, which provokes his right arm s mutation. But in turn this mutation gives him certain abilities like turning invisible, the possibility to create shields and most importantly the ability to use the glaive, a special knife-like weapon that he can use both in melee and ranged combat.
Thanks to the powers the infection grants him, Hayden can also use firearms, like shotguns or pistols, which can be taken from enemies or bought from the Black Market, and can also be modified.
Regarding the multiplayer mode it has two different modes Infection, where one player assumes the role of fully mutated Hayden and the others hunt him down as ordinary soldiers; and Epidemic where two teams, each with their own Hayden try to kill the other s mutant.
Throughout the game, Hayden encounters other characters that have been similarly mutated by the compound; however, the mutation process is painful to the point that its victims go mad. Hayden s congenital analgia inadvertently protects him from this aspect of the mutation.
In Dark Sector, the gameplay revolves around the use of the glaive. The glaive is a three-pronged boomerang-esque weapon which zooms back to Hayden after every throw.
As the game progresses, the glaive is given several new abillites; it can be guided through the air, being able to kill multiple enemies; a charged up throw for deadlier attacks, and is able to make the user invisible for a short period of time
