Baldur s Gate is a role-playingcomputer game developed by BioWare and published by Black Isle Studios, released in 1998 for Windows and Mac. It is a single-player game.
Baldur s Gate was generally well-received by all major critics, it was praised for being innovative and well-designed. It had also positive effects on the RPG genre as well which needed to be revived at that time.

It was praised also because it successfully implemented the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rules within the game. That is why it can be considered as a sequel of the famous Dungeons and Dragons game.

Baldur s gate was the first game in the Baldur s Gate series, there are about three other titles in this series, including Baldur s Gate II Shadow of Amn (plus its extension pack) the games were also released on other platforms (Dreamcast and PlayStation for example).

You can create your hero by choosing one of the available classes offered by the game; that is to say fighter, thief, mage, priest, ranger and druid, but It also includes sub-classes, dual and multi-class characters; you can also choose his or her alignment weapon proficiency.

The game takes place in the Forgotten realms in which you will have to achieve several subquests, as well as your main missions, but also find companions to support and help you during your adventures. Your group can be composed of 5 people maximum.

You will play as a young orphan who has been raised with his/her friend Imoen by the mage Gorion in the fortress of Candlekeep, now turned into a vest library, in the rural SwordCoast.

You were living peacefully believing the mage was your father. But strange events start to occur in the Sword Coast. Indeed the iron production has stopped, the metal already produces quickly crumbles, and consequently bandits are scouring the countryside hunting iron over any other treasure.

Gorion decides to leave the fortress as some mysterious mercenaries are threatening your lives. That is why you leave for a journey to a secret place. But you are attacked by a mysterious armored being that kills your protector, and you discover that assassins want to kill you too.

You have no choice but run away. You find your friend Imoen and together you decide to start your quest to figure out who is the murderer of your guardian and what caused the events happening in Sword Coast.

Your mission is simple you have to save yourself. You are alone at the beginning and you have nothing. But throughout the game you will acquire experience, strength and also friends.

They will help you and join your side for several reasons; you will have to choose your companion carefully according to their abilities and motivations, in order to create a party able to confront all dangers.
