Albion is a role-playingcomputer game developed and published by Blue Byte Software, released originally in German then translated into French for the rest of Europe in 1995 for Dos. It is a single-player game.

The game was generally well-received and was praised for its originality, beautiful graphics and environments, interesting characters and very good sounds. It features an unusual world compared to most of the RPG titles as it takes place in deep space.

It also provides another nice element that is to say two modes of gameplay, you can choose between the 2D mode and the 3D mode. The 2D mode takes place in the overworld and inside buildings (similar to Ultima 7), whereas the 3D mode is for the exploration of villages and dungeons.

To go through the game and manage to reach the next level you will have to defeat monsters in battle and gain experience. There is also a non-battle portion in Albion, in which you will have mainly to solve puzzles and have conversation with the characters. This is a very long game and it will keep you busy more than for a while.

Albion s action sets in the year 2227 and at that time a gigantic spaceship, the Toronto has been sent to visit a distant planetary system. Indeed its owner the huge DDT believes that there are rich deposits of raw materials on the third planet of this system.

So they sent the Toronto to determine if the planet s resources can be mined or not. According to the data transmitted by the computer this planet is a desert, but it appears quickly that this is absolutely not true. In reality Albion is a world full of life, mysteries, secrets, surprises and even magic.

You will play as the pilot of a small space shuttle, Tom Driscoll, whose mission is to make a reconnaissance flight for the Toronto. Unfortunately for you all your systems crash suddenly and you are forced to land on this wild and unknown planet.

In the introduction provided at the beginning of Albion you will learn more about Tom Driscoll as well as key information concerning your mission.

Terrible events occurred while you are sleeping after the crash; indeed one the crew member committed suicide. Your first decision will consist of deciding if you stay on the ship to figure out what happened or leave it and explore the environment. To remain in the ship will allow to learn controls faster, but this is just an advice.

You will meet then several strange creatures just like the Iskai (cat creatures) you will have to earn their trust and you will start your fantastic journey through the planet with them.

Throughout the game you will have to defeat several monsters, and for this you will dispose of a large range of weapons. Collect also items to sell them and use the gold you earned to buy new equipments.
