Metal gear Solid is an action / infiltration game created by the brilliant Hideo Kojima, released on Playstation in 1998. This game was developed and published by Konami. This is the first part of the saga Metal Gear Solid, following the first Metal Gear games. A remake titled Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snake was also released for Game Cube in 2004.
The history of the game takes place in 2005. A group of genetically modified soldiers, led by Liquid Snake, leader of the special unit called Fox Hound, rebels and takes possession of the nuclear facility of Shadow Moses, an island near Alaska. These terrorists threaten the United States of nuclear strike if they do not give them the remains of Big Boss, a legendary soldier, and a billion dollars. Solid Snake, an elite soldier, former member of Fox Hound, will then leave for Shadow Moses, under the request of the Colonel Roy Campbell, to put an end to the terrorist threat and rescue the hostages.
During his infiltration of Shadow Moses, Snake may contact via codec different characters providing a valuable assistance. Thus Master Miller, mentor of the hero, Natasha Romanenko, an expert on nuclear weapons, Naomi Hunter, a specialist in genetics and nanotechnology, Mei Ling, a data analyst who created the codec, and Hal Emmerich (aka Otacon), the scientist who developed the Metal Gear, will lend him a hand during the adventure.
Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action game in which the player must sneak without being noticed by guards and surveillance cameras. If by misfortune Solid Snake is located, an alarm is triggered and the player must quickly find a hiding place and wait until the situation calms down. Many weapons can be found throughout the adventure, as FAMAS assault rifle, sniper, or the remote missile launchers Nikita.
The player will face at some moments of the game the members of elite Fox Hound: Revolver Ocelot, Psycho Mantis, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf and Liquid Snake (the last member of Fox Hound, Decoy Octopus, is the only one that Snake not face in battle). They are the boss of the game, giving rise to memorable clashes.
With its fascinating history and its effective and subtle gameplay, Metal Gear Solid is a game that is a milestone in the history of video game. The series has a strong deserved success and counts now a 4th opus called Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots.
