Sonic Adventure 2 is a platform video game developed by the Sonic Team and published by Sega, released on June 19, 2001 on Dreamcast. The game was reissued later on Gamecube under the name Sonic Adventure Battle. This game is a sequel of the first Sonic Adventure and commemorates the 10 years of Sonic the famous mascot of Sega.

Sonic Adventure 2 offers a story divided into 2 scenarios, one following the adventures of the heroes and those of the bad guys. In the hero side, the player takes control of Sonic, Knuckles and Tails. And in the bad guy side, there are then Eggman, the eternal enemy of the blue hedgehog, Shadow, a mysterious black hedgehog with the strange power Chaos Control, which allows him to freeze time, and finally Rouge a bat treasure huntress.

The story of the heroes begins while Sonic, imprisoned by the army for a robbery he didn't make, escapes from the helicopter taking him to the Prison Island. The adventure of the bad guys starts while Eggman releases Shadow who was prisoner in the secret laboratory of Prison Island. On their side Rouge and Knuckles compete to obtain the Master Emerald. Knuckles will eventually join Sonic and Tails, while Rouge will go on the side of Eggman and Shadow.

The gameplay vary widely from one character to another. Thus, with Sonic and Shadow we cross stages at full speed in order to reach the finish as quickly as possible. Eggman and Tails ride robots armed with missiles and have to pass through the stages blasting the enemies appearing on the screen. Finally, the stages of Rouge and Knuckles are based on exploration and searching the fragments of Master Emerald.

Sonic Adventure 2 has multiplayer modes based on the gameplay of the different phases of the single player mode. Thus there are a race in which you have to reach the finish before your opponent, robot battles, and a treasure hunt in which you must find more fragments of emerald than your adversary.

The Chao also made their big comeback. This time you can make them evolve in hero chao or dark chao depending on how you take care of them.

Sonic Adventure 2 offers less freedom than in the previous Sonic Adventure and its Adventure Fields. However, It offers two adventures, and 3 different way of gameplay that make this Sonic a funny and interesting game.
