Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is an action / adventure video game released on Game Boy Advance on June 22, 2001, developed and published by Konami. Circle of the Moon is the first opus of the famous saga of vampire hunter that was released for Game Boy Advance. Chronologically, the story takes place between the events of Symphony of the Night and those related in the famous book by Bram Stoker, Dracula. But the story of this episode was finally removed from the chronology of Castlevania, because of some time paradoxes with other episodes of the series.

In this episode there is no question of the Belmont family, which is responsible for the eradication of Dracula and that passes the legendary whip "Vampire Killer" from generation to generation. In 1820, Dracula was defeated once more, but this time by Morris Baldwin and the parents of the hero of this opus, Nathan Graves. However, 10 years later a vampire named Camilla is now trying to revive the vampire lord. Morris Baldwin and his two apprentices, his son Hughes Balwin and his childhood friend Nathan Graves, then go to infiltrate the castle of Camilla and to stop the resurrection of Dracula. But upon their arrival, Morris and his two apprentices are separated. So Nathan and Hugues will then have to go their own way in order to find Morris and thwart Camilla?s plans.

In Castlevania: Circle of the Moon the player takes control of the young Nathan Graves armed with a whip that have to cut a path among the hordes of living dead, and other creatures of nightmare. The aim is to explore the castle in its entirety in order to beat the bosses who are hidden in each section and obtain new powers and items providing access to new locations. In addition to the whip Nathan can use many secondary weapons which are also present in other episodes of the series, as the knife, axe, holy water, and the crucifix-shaped boomerang.

Castlevania Circle of the Moon is a good episode of the saga, but that can't be compared to the other Casltlevania released on GBA thereafter as Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow that were both developed by Koji Igarashi.
