Devil May Cry is a Beat'em all released in 2001 on Playstation 2, developed and published by Capcom. The game was a great success and is now one of Capcom's major licenses. The Beat'em all video games being increasingly rare at the time, Devil May Cry has managed to restore a second youth of the genre.
The main character of Devil May Cry is Dante, a demon hunter classy and arrogant, wielding swords and guns to perfection. He owns a small "private detective" business called Devil May Cry. His company deals with very special case like the appearances of demons. Dante is also the result of the union between a humane and the powerful demon Sparda, who saved humanity long ago by fighting against his own race. The story begins when Dante receives a visit from a mysterious young woman named Trish who looks like his mother. She asked him to go to the island of Mallet to nullify the plans of Mundus, the emperor of evil who threatens humanity.
Dante will then explore the island and eradicate demons and other monstrosity standing in his way. For that he is armed with a giant sword and two guns, called Ebony and Ivory. Other firearms and melee weapons appear throughout the progression in the game, after having eliminated impressive and powerful bosses. The rich and flexible gameplay allows nervous and stylish clashes. Depending on the length and the variety of the sequence of combos which give a score of style the player will be rewarded at the end of each level with orbs that boost the skills of Dante.
With its rhythmic adventure, its nervous gameplay, and its charismatic hero, Devil May Cry is an epoch-making game. 3 sequels emerged and the license is not ready to stop there.
