Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a stealth action game released on Novembre 13, 2001 on Playstation 2, developed and published by Konami. This is the second episode of the famous saga Metal Gear Solid created by Hideo Kojima.
The introduction of the game makes you control the now famous Solid Snake. The latter, now working for a non-governmental organization called Philantropy with Otacon, infiltrates a tanker supposed to contain a new model of Metal Gear. He has to find it, take pictures and send them to Otacon. However, shortly after his arrival, the vessel was raided by a group of Russian Spetsnaz headed by Colonel Gurlukovitch, accompanied by his daughter Olga, and Revolver Ocelot?
Once the history of the tanker done, we embody the young Raiden. This new hero will have to infiltrate a huge maritime platform called Big Shell occupied by terrorists. These are called "Sons of Liberty" and stamp a nuclear threat on America. The Sons of Liberty are headed by Solidus Snake, another clone of big boss from the project "Les enfants terribles". Several members of the Dead Cell, a former anti-terrorist group, have joined Solidus, along with Olga Gurlukovitch and her militia. But Raiden will discover that behind this story lie the Patriots, a group of people that control the world in the dark, against who Solidus rose up.
The principles of the game have not changed since the first Metal Gear Solid. We must always infiltrate without being noticed by guards, surveillance cameras or cyphers, kinds of drones armed with a submachine gun. However many new elements of gameplay emerged. Thus we can use the first person view. It is very effective to take aim at an enemy. In this position we can also compel the guards to release ammunition, or other objects, and their dog tags.
The bosses, in the vein of the first episode, always give rise to unforgettable confrontation. Raiden will face, Fortune a woman that can't be hurt by bullets, armed with big linear cannon, Fatman, an expert in explosive weapon who moves with rollers, or Vamp, a charismatic character who seems to be immortal.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, a more advanced gameplay that the first episode and a complex and captivating story. Even though many players were disappointed by playing Raiden instead of Snake, the gaming experience is such that we can only get carried away in this exciting adventure.
