Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is a first person shooter video game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. The game was released exclusively on the GameCube.
After years of absence and finally returning in the videogame world with Metroid Prime, Samus Aran is back once again in the sequel of the critically acclaimed FPS. Echoes will send you throughout space to continue the adventures of the most beautiful bounty hunter in her quest to save the universe.
The game takes place 6 months after the events of Metroid Prime, mainly on the planet Aether. It is the home of the Luminoth, an advanced and peaceful race. Everything was going fine until a meteor hit the planet and destroyed some parts of it. But mostly, it seems to have created an alternate dimension, a much darker one. This dimension brought with it evil creatures called the Ing who started a ruthless war against the Luminoth for the control of the planet. At the same time, the Space Pirates found the planet and realized it was filled with Phazon. However, a Galactic Federation Marine Corps patrol finds them and starts attacking them. Both ships receive massive damage and lose contact with the Federation. In such case, who do we call' Our bounty hunter will once again be sent to Aether to investigate the events and will get involved in a war far beyond what she could imagine.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes follows the same gameplay of its predecessor. It remains a first person shooter with puzzle solving and platform events. The main novelty is of course the apparition of the two dimensions. Acting in one will have consequences on the other. Not only that but some enemies in the dark world will be immune to light weapons and Samus will have to constantly find safe zones in that dimension as the air is toxic and she will lose health. The platform events have been improved as well as now Samus can double jump.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is still a great FPS and follows perfectly its predecessor. However, it might follow it too closely and not offer enough innovations. Nonetheless it remains one of the greatest games of the GameCube and if you enjoyed the first one, you'll love Echoes.
