The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is a 2D action / adventure video game released on Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP, developed by Flagship and published by Nintendo. This is the second episode of the saga of the Legend of Zelda that was released for Game Boy Advance, after the remake of A Link to the Past. This Zelda includes a cartoon design close to The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker for Nintendo GameCube.
Each year the people of Hyrule celebrate a feast announcing the opening with the world of Minish which are minuscule creatures. The door to their world opens up once a century, and the festival that precedes the opening of the door must thus be successful and the whole town participates. But while the festival is in full swing, a mysterious magician named Vaati casts a spell on Princess Zelda who then is changed into stone. The King of Hyrule then asked Link, a young boy who is a childhood friend of Princess Zelda, to seek the help of the Minish, who the only ones able to make the Princess Zelda back to her original appearance. In this quest Link will then encounter a strange extremely talkative hat with a bird-like head that is called Ezlo. This hat has the strange power to diminish Link, so that he can access the microcosm in which live the Minish. Link and Ezlo will then leave on a great adventure to save Princess Zelda and put an end to the dark designs of Vaati.
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap retains the same system of progression of its elders. The player travel through the vast world of Hyrule, gathering information from many pnj, and exploring dungeons filled with traps, enemies and dangers of all kinds. Each dungeon also contains a special item or weapon allowing Link to solve puzzles in order to progress through the adventure. These items are also often the key to defeat the boss.
The particularity of this Zelda is the ability to move from a scale to another thanks to the power of Ezlo. Thus Link has to shrink and return to his normal size to explore the game and progress in the adventure. This process permits to discover the same place differently whether you are in normal size or in the Minish?s scale. This represents the heart of the gameplay of this episode. So we have to try to explore each place at the microscopic scale to find new passages. If the player is blocked he can always seek advice from Exelo who will give some clues.
Like other Zelda, Minish Cap is no exception to the rule and proposes several side quests. So there are the various figurines to collect from a gashapon-like machine, and the kinstones. These are parts of medallions that Link can found throughout his adventure. Once Link finds a part of medallion, he has then to find the pnj owner of the other part. When a medallion is assembled a particular phenomenon occurs, as the emergence of a treasure chest, opening a secret passage, etc'
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap offers a refreshing, exciting and funny adventure in the same vein as the other 2D Zelda episodes. Even if the game is shorter than its predecessors, the adventure is length enough to enchant the player.
