Ninja Gaiden is an action and adventure game developed by Team Ninja and published by Tecmo, released in 2004 for the Xbox (and Ninja Gaiden Black (upgraded version) in 2008) and in 2007 for PlayStation 3 with an upgraded version entitled Ninja Gaiden Sigma. This is a single-player game.

Ninja Gaiden received generally positive reviews from the gaming press; it was praised for being one of the most challenging action adventure games, with a deep and extremely interesting storyline. However it was also the focus of a series of online contests in North America, Europe and Japan as it features extremely bloody scenes and monstrous creatures.

Ninja Gaiden belongs to the very famous Ninja Gaiden series, originally developed for NES in the early nineties. The main protagonist remains the same all along the series, it is Ryu Hayabusa a powerful and talented super ninja, and the only playable character in the game.

Ninja Gaiden takes place mainly in Japan and in the fictional Vigoor Empire, and draws Heian period structures for its Japanese locations (a ninja fortress and village in the mountains). The Vigoor Empire is a blend of architectural types from around the world (gothic influences, etc.).

Ninja Gaiden begins with a cinematic in which 2 ninjas are dueling to the death; one goes down. It is revealed that the dead ninja is the father of Ryu Hayabusa.

When Ryu learns of this, he decides to start a journey to find out who killed his father and why. This quest leads him to America to find an archaeologist with whom Ryu s father was working.

From there, Ryu is involved in an evil and supernatural conspiracy involving a villain named Jaquio who has plans to use an ancient castle and some relics to unleash a terrifying evil upon the world.

You will be able to accomplish Ryu s revenge through sixteen chapters and each of them begin and end with a cutscene that reveal you more about the plot. You will make your way through the game by using your ninja sword and killing your opponents. At the end of each chapter you will have to defeat a boss.

Some other characters will assist Ryu during his quest there are Rachel (a tragic heroine). She and her twin sister Alma are afflicted with a blood curse that turns humans into fiends. As she believes that there is no cure for their condition, Rachel seeks to kill Alma to redeem her sister s soul; in some parts of Ninja Gaiden Sigma she is a playable character.

The other characters are Ayane a female ninja who acts as a guide and who supplies advices and objectives to you. And Muramasa a bladesmith who has shops scattered throughout the game world where you can purchase useful items and upgrades for Ryu s weapons. He also gives quests and relates back-stories and other crucial information.
