The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a role-playing game released on Xbox 360 and PC on March 24, 2006, and then on Playstation 3 on April 26, 2007. It was developed by Bethesda Softworks and published by 2K Games. This is the fourth opus of the famous series of RPG the Elder Scrolls, after Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind. The game has several downloadable contents and an official addon: the Shivering Isle.
At the beginning the player starts the adventure in the prison of the castle of the Emperor of Cyrodiil. The Emperor Uriel pursued by mysterious assassins just liberates the player and entrusts him with the task of finding the heir to the throne of Tamriel. Then it is the beginning of an epic quest during which the player must close the doors leading to the infernal world of Oblivion, headed by the 16 daedric lords, spreading hordes of demons on Tamriel.
The introduction serves as a tutorial, and takes place in the underground of the Imperial city Cyrodiil. This is where the player made the choice of the race (Imperial, Nord, Argonian, Khajiit, Redguard, Orc, Breton, Dark Elf, High Efle or Wood Efle) of the physical appearance of class and the zodiacal sign of his avatar.
It is only then that the player is dropped in the vast land of Tamriel, covering at least 40 km² superficies, which is almost the double of the island of Vvardenfell in Morrowind. Faced with this immensity, the player enjoys a complete freedom of movement, and can absolutely go wherever he wants. Like in Morrowind the interaction with the environment is considerable, so the player can pick up almost any item, discuss with all PNJs and join guilds, as the dark brotherhood and the warrior, thief, or mage guild. Many quests can be completed in parallel to the main quest. And following the actions made by the hero, his alignment, good or bad, will vary, affecting his reputation in the cities.
Concerning the skills that the player can learn and develop they are far fewer than in Morrowind. But it is enough to customize his character at your convenience. Thus we find skills such as discretion, eloquence, magic, or even the different fighting styles.
Many fan mods are also available and lengthen the life span of the game. More accessible with the level of the enemies that don't surpass the level of the player, skills less varied than those of Morrowind and its beautiful graphics, Oblivion can attract a broader range of players. It is today the reference in terms of occidental RPG on the next gen consoles and PC.
