Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick

Evil Dead a Fistful of Boomstick is an action horror game developed by VIS Entertainment and published by THQ, released in 2003 for PlayStation and Xbox. This is a single-player game.

This game is a sequel of Evil Dead Hail to the King, also based on the movie trilogy The Evil Dead. It received mixed reviews from the gaming press but was considered as a better game than its predecessor in the series. It was praised for its fun gameplay and its interesting storyline.

It is set twenty years after the events of the trilogy, twelve years after Ash s girlfriend Jenny, has been killed in a bus crash.

At the beginning of the game Ash Williams is sitting in his favorite bar at the red light district having a few drinks when a special Live episode of Mysteries of the Occult starts at the local television station. Trisha Pettywood hosts, a journalist out to expose the truth of The Necronomicon Ex-Mortis.

The best-selling occult author Professor Alex Elridge, colleague of the late Professor Knowby, is featured on the live show. It is decided to play Knowby s old tape on the air as a special treat for the viewers.

Ash, knowing this will summon monsters, tries to have the reading stopped but it is for naught. A Vortex of the Dead opens that unleashes Deadites and other monsters into Dearborn, Michigan.

As Ash you can head into battle with your chainsaw, shotgun and trademark wit. You are helped for a time by a local priest, who gives him advice. Sadly, the priest falls victim to the Deadites.

Ash can teleport to 4 distinct eras of Dearborn, to not only see how the invasion of the dead took place all those years ago, but to watch in horror as they multiply and control the world they now live in.

As Ash, you must use his chainsaw for a hand, as well as the trusty shotgun and pistol, new magic abilities (call down a rain of fire or possess the enemy to do the dirty work for you), plus a host of other weapons (grenades, shovels, etc.) to destroy the dead.

Once you complete a level in story mode, you can go back into that level in arcade mode and attempt to complete a range of challenges (for example, taking down a certain amount of evil in a set amount of time).

You can complete your objectives and advance within the game by using spells you pick up along the way combined with the energy of felled deadites, you can also shoot lightning, stun groups of enemies, increase your strength, or possess the carcass of a deadite and turn it against its comrades.

Whether or not you'll take to A Fistful of Boomstick will hinge primarily on your appreciation of Bruce Campbell's speaking voice and your love of cheesy one-liners.
