Jazz Jackrabbit is a platform game developed and published by Epic MegaGames, released in 1994 for Dos. It is a single-player game.
Jazz Jackrabbit is based on classical game like Sonic or Mario but adapted to PC. IT features classical elements of platform games as you have to rescue the beloved rabbit Princess Eva Earlong and defeat the leader of the turtle terrorists, whose name is Devan Shell.
This game was well-received by critics in its time, it was considered as a fun and pleasant game, offering nice graphics (for its time) and an interesting storyline.
It was also acclaimed for its colorful and cartoonish environments that are also extremely diversified from green forests to the psychedelic neon bases.
It has several sequels and was released later for several platforms like the Gameboy Advance. The later versions include several improvements and changes that improve the game itself.
Jazz Jackrabbit takes place in a fictional universe in a world rules by rabbits three thousand years after the events of The Tortoise and the Hare written by Aesop. At the time of the game the enmity between the two species is not over and they continue to attack each other.
The gale sets first on the Planet Carrotus, homeland of the hare s nation. The evil Devan Shell and his army of Turtle Terrorists decide to kidnap the rabbit princess Eva Earlong and also to attack the hare s homeworld.
Jazz Jackrabbit, who is in love with the princess, is charged of rescuing her. His mission will lead him on several planets.
Jazz Jackrabbit is divided into six episodes, and each episode includes 3 worlds with two levels and one 3D bonus level (that you can reach by finding a special gem hidden in one of the two standards levels) per world, a secret level on each episode (that is hidden in a particular planet) and finally a boss level.
On the contrary of the game Sonic, in Jazz Jackrabbit you will have a life bar that will show you how much health you still have. This bar decreases when an enemy shoots you or when you come in contact with. You can restore you health bar by collecting carrots.
Another difference with Sonic is that you do not jump on your enemies to kill them; instead you have to use a blue gun that you always carry with you.
You will be able to use different bullet types throughout the game and you will also acquire 5 other guns while playing. These weapons will allow you to kill your opponents faster.
To go from one world to the next you will also be able to use helicopter that you will drive with your ears.
