Metroid Prime is a first person shooter developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. The game was released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube.

After many years of absence, Samus Aran returns in her very first 3D adventure. There is no need to say that the game was both critical and commercial wise, an absolute success.

Metroid Prime is the first game of a trilogy with the later on released Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Our bounty hunter receives a message from one of the Space Pirates asking for help as her crew is being attacked by their experiments. Arriving on the space ship, Samus will have to fight some genetically modified creatures and eventually the Parasite Queen (the source of the problem). Of course, Samus destroys the beasts but consequently, it destroys the core of the ship leading to its destruction. Luckily, Samus survives but loses all her Power Suit upgrades. A quest to recover her strength and hunt the space pirates begins.

Metroid Prime follows the footsteps of the previous games of the series. You still play in open-ended world connected by elevators. The exploration takes a huge part in the game (this is why Nintendo refers to it as a first person adventure) in which you'll go through platform events, solving puzzles and others. Plus, instead of keeping a first person view during the whole game, Samus has the possibility to transform into a ball, which changes the camera in a third person view. Nonetheless, the shooting part is still the biggest one and you'll have many power ups to kill the creatures in many different ways. Finally, the game also has many bosses which vary the gameplay and offer very intense action scenes.

Metroid Prime is the best first person shooter on the Nintendo GameCube, and simply one of the greatest of all times. The game is varied, with an intriguing story, impressive graphics. And of course, it is with great pleasure that we rediscover Samus Aran who we thought was lost forever. A must have for any owner of the console.

Metroid Prime reviews

It's not just one of the single most atmospheric games ever created, but it's also quite simply one of the best.
