Grand theft auto vice city is an action/adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.
After the amazing success of Grand Theft Auto III we could only expect a sequel, and here it is. If the game can seem, at first sight, as just an expansion to the third episode, Vice city is a completely different game.
First of all, the game takes place in Vice City, a fictional city inspired by Miami, and in the ambience of the 80s. You play as a Mafia member, Tommy Vercetti recently out of prison. Originally from Liberty City, you are sent to Vice City to orchestrate a drug deal. However, the deal is ambushed by some unknown men and results in the death of Tommy's bodyguard and the drug dealer. Tommy has no choice but to start from the bottom all over again and work for different organizations to regain some respect and find out what happened during the deal.
The gameplay is pretty much the same as Grand Theft Auto III with some improvements. You evolve in an open-world where you're free to do as you wish as long as you're not in a mission. You'll have the possibility to steal cars and newly added motorcycles to roam around the city. Cops will be of course on your back if you don't respect the laws (and now they will not only follow you but they'll place spike strips to flatten your tires and be more aggressive). The biggest addition to the game is the possibility to buy all sorts of businesses (film studio, dance club...) that will generate some income.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is a great sequel to the third episode and gives us everything that was missing. In addition, contrary to its prequel, the main character can now talk and react to his environment. Vice city has all the qualities to be one of the best games of the PS2 and should by all means be played.
