Neverwinter Nights is a computer role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by Infogrames, Atari, and MacSoft, released in 2002 for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. This game features single-player and multiplayer modes.
This game generally received positive reviews from the gaming press; in its time it was praised for its original storyline, campaigns, and graphics. It even received awards as the Best RPG, best online multiplayer game.

Neverwinter Nights takes place in a fantasy medieval world, where you can choose your character from plenty of different races. You have to develop your character who will then become the ultimate hero. You can choose your character s gender, race, character class, alignment, statistics (strength, dexterity, and so on.), abilities (skills, feats, and so on.), appearance, and name.

There is a great deal of customization possible, one can be, for example, an outdoorsman (Ranger class), healer (Cleric class), and then you choose the skills and feats that would help them the most (it can be useful for a Ranger to have Animal Empathy, for example).
The environments are randomly generated by the game and if you wish you can create your own by using an advanced (but simple) tool kit provided within the game.

At the beginning of the game you are sent by Lady Airbeth to recover four monsters needed to make a cure for the Wailing Death that is a plague sweeping the city of Neverwinter. You will be helped in your mission by Lady Airbeth s lover, Fenthick Moss, and Desther his friend; your character is obviously able to retrieve the monsters.
But as soon as the cure is made, Desther s troops attack Castke Neverwinter; the evil Desther steals the cure and escapes from the castle; you and Fenthick immediately start to pursue him.

You will be able to use different magic style to help your character to go through the world. Your main quests will lead to challenge the greatest evil in the world of the Forgotten Realms, with also mini-quests to keep you busy between major battles. Some of these mini-quests are class-specific, while other can alter your stance between good and evil.

Regarding the multiplayer mode you can go on the internet thanks to servers and challenge other players in arrange of battles and even more. It includes Dungeon Master (where you control the traps and battles set for other players in the dungeon) and a range of game types such as hunting for treasure or a simple death match battle between players.

Each server (depending on several factors such as bandwidth for example) can support up to 64 players on the same server application, and additional players can join the same machine, on a different server, on a different port of the machine to give more player capacity, although this reduces game quality on low end machines.

Neverwinter Nights game modules run as a variety of separate genres and themes, including persistent worlds, but also combat arenas (player versus player modules), and even simple social gatherings similar to a chat room.

Neverwinter Nights reviews

Neverwinter Nights is one of those exceedingly rare games that has a lot to offer virtually everyone, even if they aren't already into RPGs.
