Grand theft auto III is an action/adventure game developed by DMA Design (Rockstar North) and published by Rockstar Games.
GTA III has revolutionized the videogame industry forever! It is the first 3D version of the series and it is an understatement to say that the game was a success. The game starts by your character robbing the Liberty City Bank and left for dead by your accomplice. Of course, you survive and escape from being sent to prison. Being a nobody you start taking jobs in the local mafia, to later on enhance your reputation and be given new missions.
GTA III has changed the game play that we were used to in other games. Even if there is a story, you're free to do anything you like between missions, and I mean anything. Liberty city (a New York City representation) is an entirely open world. Walk, run, drive, fly anything is possible...well, the police doesn't to think so but who cares' That is one of the reasons why the game was declared "dangerous" for young minds as you'll spend your time stealing cars, killing innocent pedestrians and others. Of course, the cops won't let you go so easily. The more crimes you commit, the more cop stars you'll get (going from 1 to 5). Once you reach 2 stars (which is done very easily), they won't let you go until you're arrested, dead, or if you change the color of your car and disappear.
GTA III doesn't have incredible graphics for the PS2 but their largely suffice as all characters are very charismatic and the voice acting is perfect. The following episodes improved even more those elements and offer the best realistic voices in video games. In addition, each time you're in a car, you can turn on the radio with many different stations each one with its own theme. Going from hard rock to hip hop, passing by some good old country, you're sure to find your music. Plus, there are also a couple of talk shows that are absolutely hilarious and that you won't mind hearing over and over again.
GTA III has become a reference, not of its genre, but of video game history. Everything in the game has been studied with attention offering a unique experience. If you have never played this game, well... go try it out right now! Not many games offer as much fun and you'll spend hours simply killing people and running away from cops in your car, completely forgetting the story. A must!
