Final Fantasy X is the first opus of the series on the Ps2 as well as the last game Squaresoft will make (now: Square Enix). It is a role playing game, developed exclusively for the Sony console.

The tenth episode of the famous series is finally here. Square has always been one of the companies that really care about what their game looks like. As expected, the game is as beautiful as possible with various backgrounds, incredible character models and complete 3D environments.

The story, as usual, is very profound with many critics to society and will keep you hanging to the very end. You play with Tidus, the star player of the Zanarkand Abes, the strongest blitzball team in all of Spira (FFX's world), when suddenly Sin (a gigantic monster) attacks the modern city. After waking up, you land in a completely different town called Besaid where you'll meet most of the playable characters. Above all, you'll be introduced to Yuna, a young summoner who follows her father's trail who had once defeated Sin (Yes, the beast revives). You, Tidus, will embark on a journey as one of her guardians accompanying her threw all of Spira as she expects to gain the power to defeat Sim. A long the way you'll discover what happened to Tidus and meet some unexpected foes.

Concerning the game play, FFX brings two major changes. One, the battles are now turn-based, which means you'll have all the time you need to prepare strategically your battles (not like the previous games where you had to wait for the action bar to fill up). Two, you still gain experience and levels, but now you decide in which direction each character evolves. Each character gains a "sphere level" after having earned enough Ability points. Then, in your menu, you have access to a giant sphere where every ability (magic + 1, force + 1, black magic 1, etc.) represents a dot and all of them are linked. Each player starts of in a different place of the sphere (depending on their original stats) and you use your "sphere levels" to get to one dot to another. This allows complete freedom in your character's evolution.

Final Fantasy is probably one of the best episodes of the series with an incredible story and epic battles. In addition, the game is filled with tons of side quests and mini-games (the RPG sports game blitzball is particularly well done). For all the RPG's fans, not playing this game would be an enormous mistake. For all the other players, here's your chance to discover one of the best games of the Ps2 (probably even better than the later on released FFXII).
