Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is an action / adventure game released on Ds in 2005, developed and published by Konami. This is the direct sequel to Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, the last episode of the series released on Game Boy Advance in 2003. There are Koji Igarashi to production and script, and Michiru Yamane for the musical composition. However the absence of Ayami Kojima for the charac design is sorely felt, losing a bit of the characteristic charm of the series.
We embody once again the young student Sôma Cruz, who will have to face this time a sinister cult led by Celia Fortner accompanied by Dario Bossi, and Dmitrii Blinov, two pretenders for the resurrection of Dracula. There are also characters already present in Aria of Sorrow: the friend of Sôma Mina Hakuba, the mysterious Genrya Arikado, Julius Belmont, Yoko Belnades and Hammer the itinerant merchant.
The system of souls which was the essence of Aria of Sorrow made its comeback. Sôma may then discover new powers by absorbing soul of monsters. Some powers also use the touch screen of the Ds. So we can once the adequate power acquired break blocks by tapping the screen with the stylus or control invoked creature. The tactile feature is also used to inflict the fatal blow to the boss by drawing geometrical figures on the screen. The top screen is also used to display the map of the castle or the data of the hero.
More graphically beauteous (despite the absence of Ayami Kojima at Charac design) than Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow continues the adventures of Sôma Cruz by offering a successfully completed game that does honor to the series.
