Age of Empires II is a strategy game developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft.
Age of Empires II is the sequel to the famous real time strategy game of the same name. The game lets you control a society which you have to make evolve over time to be strongest and eventually conquer and destroy other Empires. There are four ages in which your society will evolve: Dark Ages, Feudal Age, Castle Age, and finally the Imperial Age. Each one of them unlocks new buildings and new units. To pass from one age to another, you'll have to gather enough resources (gold, rock, wood, and food) and construct enough buildings.
Age of Empires offers a great variety of buildings each one with its own purpose. You have the army buildings (archery, cavalry, siege weapons...), the agricultural and resources buildings (mining camps, windmills...) and others that will improve your society (university, blacksmith...). Every building is essential for victory and even if all civilizations have the same structures, they produce units from that civilization (Persians have war elephants...). The game lets you control one of 13 civilization going From Western Europe to the Far East.
A part from the classic standard game where you play against a computer player in a selected map, Age of Empires will let you live actual historical events threw the campaign mode. You'll be able to lead the French as Joan of Arc, invade Asia with Genghis Khan, or even scare the English as William Wallace. Age of Empires also comes with an online multiplayer mode where you can battle any one of your friends (up to eight players) in an arena of your choice.
Age of Empires II is a reference in strategy games and shouldn't be avoided. The game offers hours of fun, even against a computer opponent, with tons of possibilities to create your society. One of the best strategy games, period.

In school my teachers always made sure that my social studies and history classes were very, very boring.
