New Super Mario Bros is a platform game developed and published by Nintendo. It was released exclusively for the Nintendo DS.

A new console in the Nintendo world means a new series of its legendary games, in this case Mario. The plumber returns in a brand new adventure and the first one on the new handheld console. Once again you'll embark on a journey to save your beloved princess.

On a peaceful day, simply taking a stroll with Peach, Lakit thunder (the little koopa on a cloud) attacks the castle with lightning. Mario runs to the rescue leaving the Princess all alone to the grasp of Bowser Jr. who doesn't hesitate to kidnap her. Like Super Mario Bros 3, you will follow their trail across 8 worlds filled with different levels and the usual boss at the end. You will have to face all dangers to rescue Peach and will confront as always the mighty Bowser and his junior version.

New Super Mario Bros can be summarized as a mix between the 2D and 3D games. Levels are in 2D but Mario and enemies are in 3D. Many actions have been taken from the recent games such as the ground pound. Like always, you'll have the usual power-ups: mushroom, fire flower, star, etc. But the game also introduces new ones like the possibility to take a koopa shell and become Shell Mario or the Mega Mushroom to become gigantic and destroy everything in your path. Each world will have you using different abilities to keep advancing.

New Super Mario Bros is, as always, a reference in the platform games on the Nintendo DS. However, the game doesn't take advantage of the consoles possibilities and you will play the game without using the touch screen (except for minigames). In other words, this is another classic Mario that will bring you hours of fun without really innovating the 2D platform genre.
