Condemned: Criminal Origins is a first person survival horror released on Xbox 360 in 2005, and PC in 2006. It was developed by Monolith Production and published by Sega. Condemned is an oppressive and violent game.
We embody Ethan Thomas, an FBI agent, who will get involved in a sordid affair after inspecting the scene of a crime perpetrated by a serial killer. Ethan will soon realize that this murder, the dead pigeons scattered throughout the city, and the increase of crime are linked. Ethan will then sink into a nightmare on the borders of reality, in which he can only rely on him and on his friend Rose.
The player will then have to go through dark levels filled with beggars, homeless people and drug addicts suffering amok. To defend him Ethan can use various weapons collected in the environments, as pipes, nailed planks or even monkey wrenches. Some firearms can also be found but they are rather rare and have limited ammunitions. The player must move forward with an utmost caution, because enemies can bolt from the blue at any time and assail you.
By the time the player must participate in investigation phases advancing the scenario, using various instruments of the panoply of FBI agent to analyze crime scenes.
Condemned: Criminal Origins is a shabby and unhealthy thriller, with a gameplay in a subjective view bringing a touch of originality to the genre.
This first-person action game hits you like a sledgehammer with its astounding, stunningly creepy presentation, but it sacrifices opportunities for more shocks and surprises by settling for repetition.

Silent Hill 4 proved first-person games can be just as terrifying as those with a third-person view; Condemned confirms it. Graphically on par with the best of the 360 launch lineup, it also has the most memorable sound design of any recent horror title. Yes, the levels are cliched; you'll visit subways, rotting department stores, and other genre mainstays that have been abandoned by all except some rats and homeless thugs.

If shooting, racing, and football just aren't your thing, maybe Sega's offbeat crime-adventure hybrid Condemned will keep you cozy this winter. In the words of Producer Dave Hasle, "Criminal Origins is the unique combination of a gritty first-person action game set in the tense atmosphere of a psychological thriller." Prepare for a blend of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay gameplay (first-person exploration and fisticuffs with grimy hobos) and CSI-inspired sleuthing (get ready to spray some luminol and dust for prints). You do holster the occasional pistol, but strictly limited ammo makes this feel more like a survival-horror escapade than a run-n-gun first-person shooter.
