Hitman: Blood Money

Hitman Blood Money is a stealth game developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive, released in 2006 for Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox and Xbox 360. This is a single-player game.

This is the fourth game in the Hitman video game series; it was extremely well-received by critics and was even considered as the best game in the series as it is full of improvements. It features an original storyline and a challenging and captivating gameplay.

The game also differs from the original three in that several contracts are carried out in civilian areas, as opposed to the covert ops settings of Codename 47, Silent Assassin, and Contracts missions.

Hitman Blood Money s main character is always Agent 47, who is a bald test subject branded with a barcode tattooed on his head who has been rigorously trained in methods of murder, he is a great and really talented professional killer.

The story is told through cutscenes that are narrated by a former director of the FBI to a journalist, it reveals the life of Agent 47. The reporter, Rick Henderson, arranged to interview Cayne concerning a recent attack on the White House.

But it quickly becomes clear that Cayne s real intent is to discuss 47. As the story progresses, it is implied that the Agencys employees are being systematically eliminated by an albino clone, a super-assassin dispatched by a western counterpart to the Agency called The Franchise; the situation degrades to the point where 47 s controller Diana Burnwood informs him that they are the only ones left.

Hitman Blood Money begins with a flashback at a Baltimore amusement park, where many people are killed in an accident caused by negligent maintenance of a ferries wheel.

The father of one of the victims calls the Agency and orders a hit on the park owner, Joseph Clarence, who was cleared of all charges. 47, on the run from competitors from Europe, carries out the hit; following that assignment, he receives a string of contracts from American clients eager to hire the legendary hitman.

You will have to complete several missions and kill one or more individuals; you will be helped by a satellite map which can be assessed at any time.

The map indicates the layout of each topographical area of the level, the whereabouts of 47 s main targets, and other CPU-controlled characters. In order to carry out his mission, 47 may use any method at his disposal to eliminate his targets, regardless of witnesses or excessive violence done to bystanders.

Not only rewarding stealth over bloodshed as is traditional in the series, Blood Money includes features that directly penalize the player for making too much noise.

Blood Money also gives you the opportunity to customize weapons. This will prove to be of great use in order to successfully adapt to the mission circumstances. Use your stealth and weapon skills as you see fit, but remember the cameras, the witnesses and the outcome. If you get careless, you might end up being hunted down by other assassins.

In Hitman Blood Money the gameplay features the Notoriety system. If you, during a mission, kill innocents or civilians, get caught on CCTV or is witnessed committing murder, Agent 47 s notoriety will raise. Conversely, if you execute the mission perfectly with none of the aforementioned events occurring, 47 s notoriety will be minimal.

The higher Agent 47 s notoriety is, the easier it will be for non-playable-character to identify him. You may use the bribery system to negate accumulated notoriety. The notoriety system is not enabled in Rookie mode, which also allows unlimited saves and a lower level of general difficulty.

Hitman: Blood Money reviews

While the underlying stealth action is mostly unchanged from the previous Hitman games, a diverse sequence of imaginative scenarios gives Blood Money its own fair share of violent thrills.

On paper, the idea that a stealth game that can either be finished in single-digit hours when using the good old "run-n-gun" approach or will require multiple restarts when playing the proper stealthy way sounds pretty bad. Yet the Hitman franchise manages to make stealth assassinations seem so smooth and sexy that you don't mind hitting the Restart Level option frequently, just to better pore over the map and the targets and the opportunities. It's the kind of game where you feel merely OK for walking in and shooting someone, but you feel like a slick assassin when you instead arrange the circumstances in order to make the hit look a tragic accident (e.g., making a Jacuzzi fall apart or a barbecue grill explode during a birthday party).

I was afraid that the Hitman franchise was going the way of the sports title, offering only incremental improvements between games. But I'm pleased with Blood Money's new features, such as the notoriety system, getting money to spend on both weapons and bribes to lower said notoriety, and the use of highly populated venues for missions. The first two are pretty big changes, in my opinion, and the last makes for some awesome levels, including the Mardi Gras mission. And how could you not love a game that lets you off a guy by hiding a remote-controlled bomb inside a wedding cake?

This time around it's all about the benjamins for the cold, calculating Agent 47. The skill of your hits will result in more cash, which in turn gets Agent 47 better weapons and will also affect his path through the game.

The main things you should know about the next Hitman title: You'll use actual in-game money (paid based on mission performance) to modify your weapons, picture-in-picture screens show events such as civilians discovering bodies, and every mission takes place in highly populated areas (such as hotels and opera houses). Yet at the heart of every Hitman title is Agent 47's flexibility when it comes to assassinations.
