Saints Row is a GTA-like released on August 29, 2006, on Xbox 360, developed by Volition and published by THQ. As the series Gran Theft Auto, Saints Row is a game that takes place in an open urban environment where a total freedom is provided to the player. The game focuses on a war between several gangs who wants to control the city.
At the beginning we have to create our character from a character editor. We can thus choose his morphology, the features of his face and his hair at our convenience. Once the main character is created, the game starts and the player attends a settling scores. Brought into the gang war, the hero will be saved by Julius, leader of the gang of the 3rd Street Saints. The player will then integrate the gang and help the Saints to become the undisputed masters of the city of Stilwater.
The playground that represents Stilwater covers 16 km². As in GTA we can requisition cars, use firearms and visit the city freely. Nevertheless, we must be careful to not cause too much trouble in order to not be chase by the police.
In addition to the missions against the opponent gangs Los Carnales, Vice Kings and West Side Rollerz, which form the main thread of the game, the player can make many small quests and optional activities. Thus, the player can engage in the delivery of drugs, do the mac, complete murder missions, or make insurance fraud by throwing himself under the wheels of cars. All these activities help increase your respect and release objects and other bonuses.
Even if the size of the playground is less important than in Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas, and there is less variety in vehicles that can be controlled, Saints Row is a good alternative to the GTA series.
Saints Row may look like just another Grand Theft Auto rip-off, but the rare quality of its action and presentation make it stand tall on its own merits.
