Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories is a Tactical-RPG released on Playstation 2 on August 29, 2006, developed and published by Nippon Ichi Software. This is the sequel to Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. This time, the player does not take control of Laharl but of a new hero named Adell. This is not the direct result of Disgaea but the adventure takes place in the same universe.
15 years ago, the powerful Overlord Zenon cast a curse on the poor villagers of Veldime. They were all turned into demons, except the young Adell. Now a young man, Adell decides to confront Zenon in order to lift the curse. His mother, knowing the mysteries of the invocation, tries to invoke the Overlord. But instead of Zenon, it is his daughter Rozalin that appears. Adell then decides to leave his home and bring Rozalin back to her home and take the opportunity to defy his father and so lift the curse on Veldime.
Not being directly the suite of the first episode, Disgaea 2 still retains the crazy atmosphere of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. However, Etna, vassal of the main character of the first opus, makes her comeback, accompanied by his prinny slaves. Laharl and Flonne will also make a small appearance during the game.
The sameT-RPG game system has been preserved, enriched with many novelties. We always fight on a playground in the form of checkerboard. The unit creation system has also been improved with new classes of characters and monsters. The geopanel system is also present in the game, and can cause devastating damage chains on the battlefield. There is also obviously the Dark Assembly that can now provide the emergence of new fighters; as well as the Item World, where we will hunt down and beat characters that possess treasure maps in addition to the climb floors.
The great novelty of this episode is the Dark World. Each level of the game has its dark version. Much more difficult than normal levels, Dark World stages are reserved for hardened warriors. Each Dark World is dominated by the Dark Sun, an evil sun granting bonuses to the characters on the map. The player could destroy the Dark Sun by raising his heroes on each other, and then fly like a rocket towards the threatening sun in order to eliminate it.
Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, although a little less crazy than the first Disgaea, has an even longer and richer adventure.
Just like the first Disgaea, this strategy role-playing game is best suited for fans of other stuff like it, and it's chock-full of depth, lasting value, and surprisingly good humor.
