Fatal Frame
Fatal Frame is a survival horror game released on March 4, 2002, on Playstation 2, developed and published by Tecmo. He was also released on November 22, 2002. Fatal Frame had the ambition to break into the business of survival horrors, in which only the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series were illustrious, while providing an original gameplay and a unique atmosphere.
It all began when a young student called Miku Hinasaki entering the old mansion of the Himuro family to find her brother, Mafuyu. The latter had disappeared after leaving to find his old friend, a novelist named Junsei Takamine. The novelist went to visit the Himuro mansion with his publisher Koji Ogata, and a passionate of paranormal Tomoe Hirasaka. The old mansion is known for its dark bloody stories, where many strange rituals took place and would have led to the deaths of several Himuro family members as well as many other people. Junsei Takamine wanted to find inspiration for his next book. Following his disappearance, Mafuyu has decided to conduct the investigation within the gloomy Himuro mansion, before disappearing in his turn. Concerned for his brother, Miku goes then in search of him and will dive in nightmare and discover the terrible secret of the Himuro family.
There is no living dead and other mutant creatures here, the enemies are the ghosts of people dead in atrocious suffering. Miku could fight them only thanks to a mysterious camera that has the power to capture the essences of the ghosts within pictures. Fatal Frame has an impressive atmosphere. The player moves through the manor with fear in his stomach, solving riddles and expecting to see a ghost at the bend of each corridor. These spirit-rappers float above ground, moaning, often frozen in the posture of their death. The player will have to gather his courage in both hands in order to confront them. More the ghosts are well-framed and closer to the camera, more the damages will be important. Then we have to take the best pictures of these macabre appearances while avoiding contact if you don't want your life to be drained by the clasp of these evil spirits.
Throughout the adventure you can pick up different type of reels more or less effective against the spectra. The camera can also be improved with new powers that could be released thanks to the points earned by taking photos. Thus there are powers that could slow down or immobilize the ghosts. Even zoom can be obtained.
Project Zero provides an alternative experience of gaming compared to the tenor of survival horror console. With its tortured history, its unique atmosphere and its effective and particular gameplay, Project Zero offers a great terrifying adventure that is not for the faint-hearted.
