Super Mario World is a platform video game for Super Nintendo released on August 13, 1991, developed and published by Nintendo. This is the fifth game of the famous platform game series of the mustachioed plumber. It is in this episode that appears for the first Yoshi the dinosaur who would then appear in many other games of the mascot of Nintendo, as Mario Party, Yoshi's Island, the series of Mario Kart, or Super Smash Bros. Among the first games of the Super Nintendo, Super Mario World was among the first games of the Supe Nintendo and met a great success and more than 20.6 million copies were sold around the world.
While Mario and his brother Luigi took well-deserved holiday on Yoshi's Island, Princess Peach Toadstool is once again kidnapped by the evil Bowser and his henchmen. The two brothers will then stop their holidays and go through many levels full of dangers in order to rescue the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and beat the stubborn Bowser. On their way they will meet the members of the Yoshi tribe, a family of dinosaur of varied colors that have been prisoned in various places of the world.
Super Mario Land is a classic platform game in the same vein as its predecessors. The player takes control of Mario (a second player may also join the game by taking control of Luigi) and will have to travel 7 different worlds, not counting the two hidden bonus worlds. So the game start on Yoshi's Island and finally ends in the lair of the tyrannical Bowser. In total the game counts 74 different stages which can be divided into several categories. In addition to the so-called "normal' levels, we can find some based on a particular theme such as the haunted houses, which often offer real headaches, the fortresses, which are kept by the 4 Reznor brothers, or bonus stages of the Star world. At the end of each world the player will have to explore a castle housing a boss. These bosses are in fact the son of Bowser, and Mario could not enter the next world until after defeating the boss and destroyed his castle.
As in other Mario, the player can collect many bonuses scattered throughout the levels, such as the magic mushroom that allows Mario to increase his size and thus become super Mario, the flower giving him the power to launch fireballs, the Star making him invicible during a short moment, or even the feather that gives a magic cape allowing the hero to fly and thus reach secret places otherwise inaccessible. By hitting some blocks the player may release a Yoshi, which will be a mount for Mario. However some Yoshis appear as baby and the player will have to give them food or enemies in order to make them grow. The Yoshi can move faster and swallow some enemies.
The game is filled with secret passages and hidden things to be discovered as special switches that make color blocks appear throughout the levels, or the multicolored Yoshis that can be found in the bonus world, in order to meet the tribe complete in Yoshi?s house.
Super Mario World is still one of the best 2D platform games ever, with an adventure quite lengthy if you want to finish the game entirely.
